British military hero saw the need to unite the boys of the world into an organization that would give them the chance to become learned fit citizens on the world The outcome was the Boy Scouts which would later become the free worlds largest youth association Scouting came to the United States through the efforts of the Chicago publisher Wil liam Boyce in 1910 Through the influence of Lord Baden Powell Mr Boy ce spread the good news of Scouting from coast to coast with amazing results The Boy Scotus of America grew with such force that it was Incorporated on ebruary 8 1910 and Chartered by Con gress on June 15 1916 as a nationally recognized organi zation Since 1910 more than 4( million boys have joined the ranks of Scouting and more than 1J million men who give of their valuable time This Year Kentucky burley producers will vote again this year on an acreage poundage control pro gram for the crop The announcement was made last week by USDA Secretary Orville reeman at a special conference at Louisville Last year Kentucky farmers approved the system In a belt wide referendum (73 percent of the voters favored it) but in Tennessee growers reject ed it Thus In the burley belt the measure did not make the required two thlrds majority reeman said voting would be from eb 27 to midnight March 3 Balloting will be by mall the first time this has been tried in the Kentucky to bacco program Local Agricul tural Stabilization and Conser vation Service (ASCS) offices will receive the ballots The secretary said the national acreage poundage allotment (if the program Is voted in) would be 277273 acres about 108 percent higher than the 1966 proposed acreage poundage al lotments If the current acreage program stays in Its allotment will be 250153 acres The national average yield un der the acreage poundage system Is set at 2200 pounds an acre about 150 pounds per acre higher than last reeman said the 1963 1965 per acre average yield In the belt was 2151 pounds an acre Murray Ky announced the commissioning of Larry Conway son of Mr and Mrs Hubert Conway Jr Kevil Ky as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Receiving their gold bars in a ceremony on January 28 1967 climaxed four years of intensive military and ac ademic studies which in cluded a six week summer camp Lt Conway was com missioned in the Infantry and will report for his first as signment at ort the better ones can grow faster Usually several improvemght cuttings are made before the final product is harvested Often the products re moved will pay uel wood can be cut from the poor trees railroad ties from the short forked trees and even some saw logs for home use The good trees that are left are called the croptrees If each acre is adequately covered or full stocked with the better hardwood trees the forest will grow from 1 to 1 cord of wood a year on each acre In the small forest of good pine growth will av erage from 1 to 2 cords an acre a year perhaps more in certain areas of the South Thinnings should be made whenever the tops of the trees become crowded or when many dying branches appear an indication that the tree wants more room to grow Often young seedlings become 1966 income should have filed that paper by January 16 1967) 2) If your business year dots not start as of January 1 the procedure is different ile the return and pay the tax on or before the 15th day Dave Bell Jr 48 of Wick liffe died Monday night at 9 15 at Western Baptist Hos pital in Paducah He was a veteran of WW II He is survived by his wife Ollie three sisters Maggie reeman Elsie Brown Slid Annie Clark of The body is at the Ham mock uneral Home in Padu cah pending funeral arrange ments 1 Mr Bell suffered gunshot wounds at the hands of one Mike Henderson in a Cairo Illinois restaurant Sunday morning It is reported that Mr Henderson came into the restaurant around 4:30 am and asked Mr Bell for money Mr Bell stated he had none Henderson left re turning some 15 minutes later and fired a shot at Bell Af ter Bell had fallen to the floor he shot him three times Bell was taken to St Hospital and later taken to Western Baptist in Paducah were he underwent surgery Henderson was picked up approximately one hour later by Cairo police and is being held in the Cairo jail Mr Bell has been employ ed as a butcher for Ballard Grocery at Wickliffe for ap proximately 20 years Junior Activity new members Eldon Heatcott Is Dist Supt or Dies Monday Vocational Ag Charge Cairoiie In Death Of Wickliffe Man Mike Henderson stood calmly before Judge George Oros in Cir cuit Court 'today while he was formally charged with murder The charge was filed after Dave Bell Jr 45 Wickliffe died in a Paducah hospital about 9:15 pm Monday Henderson 54 of Cairo Is charged with murder in connec tion with the shooting of Bell early Sunday in Rib Crib located at 231 13th St Bell was reportedly shot several limes with a pistol allegedly wielded by Henderson Bell died less than 48 hour after he was shot Chief of Police Carl Clutts said investigation indicated that Henderson and Bell had been in an argument in the cafe and that Henderson left and then re turned with a pistol and the ar gument resumed climaxing with being shot Witnesses told police at least four shots were fired in the fracas Henderson was arrested at his home about 30 minutes after the shooting occurred Judge Oros ordered Henderson held without bail pending court proceedings He is being re tained in the Alexander County jail Veterans Rep To Be at Court House Mr Miles a Contact Representative of the Ken tucky Disabled
