Poge Six Twin City Journol Reporter Inc Wednesday June 12 1991 Councilmen Continued from front page DiGianunarino maintains that considering the financial infor mation town officials have made public the town of Jonesboro cannot bear that kind of burden Rogers said that from what he knows Jonesboro officials were using the information to get a ball park figure of the financial burden the town would havdHo carry for PER coverage Town Manager Jim Stuttle who left the town hall during DiGiam presentation said earlier the town has no plans yet to take further steps on the coverage process Jonesboro Council President Merle McDaniel who arrived shor tly before the meeting adjourned said that he was unaware that the state PER even replied in regard to the matter Councilmen Asked To Resign Earlier in the meeting CCC member Ray Sheren came forward and asked for the resignations of the councilmen present in regard to an alledged violation of the state issuance of warrants laws The law stipulates that claims against the town can be approved at public meetings only and failure to so results In the forfeiture of the offices Sherren said Senior Golf ifty nine golfers participated when Area Seniors met at Lake View Golf Course east of Gas City Tuesday June 4 Alice Purtee Herb Mobler Bill Huston and Ed red were members of the first place team Second place team included Jean Bigger Russ eller Jim Shipman and Bob Wright Third place team was Ruth Blackard Gene Carroll Warren Hom and Deane Martin ourth place team included Marilyn Ogden Gene Bunch Jack Mullins and Gamer England ifth number three and Jean Bigger on number eight Sheren argued that if the coun cilmen are law abiding citizens they should step down as public officials oustnight Ed Jemigan and Bob Carroll the councilmen in atten dance met proposal with no comment and no expression In other business several citizens voiced their dissatisfaction with the attendence records of the current councilmen Jonesboro resident Crystal Logan told the council that if she show up at work she make any money Logan urged the council to uggest the councilmen not in attendence resign from their posts Table Alley Vacating Town Council voted to table its decision in regard to a petition to vacate an alley until its June 25 council meeting The petition to vacate the alley that runs East and West between River and Glenn Streets in Addition was filed by Dave Smith According to testimony Smith operates a trucking company from his property at the open end of the alley Democratic candidate for Jonesboro Council George Hiles owns property at the other end of the alley and argued that he would be denied access to the rear of his property if the alley were vacated Smith attorney Tom Grogg argued side of the case He stated the alley has never been used as an alley by the public In his case Grogg argued that the town has never graded gravelled or otherwise maintain the alley and that it is no longer a means of ingress or egress To vacate the alley Grogg stated would merely complete what was started in 1976 a time when a por tion of the alley was vacated Jim Beaman an attorney who argued side of the case stated that the alley is necessary for utility companies emergency vehicles and residents to have access to the backs of their properties Beeman argued that Hiles went by the platt when investing in the property 30 years ago and the platt indicated an alley behind the property The Hiles family heats their house with wood Beaman argued and they need access to the rear of their property to receive the wood and store it Beaman further noted that the 1976 vacation of a portion of the alley did not deny anybody access to their properties Beaman said that by law an alley cannot be vacated if in doing so access to a property became difficult or inconvenient Beaman argued that it would become impossible Of several concerned parties the town council notified on the issue only Indiana Bell objected to the petition to vacate the alley Coun cilman Gerald oustnight said Hospital News Admissions riday May 31 Ronald Lowe 309 ES A St Gas City Monday June 3 Sherry McAlpin 410 Main St Gas City
